Classroom/Range Instruction Day

Saturday, March 25th 10:00am-1:00pm

Pittsfield Trap Club, 3142 Brookside Dr., Pulaski, WI

Both groups should plan on eating lunch at PTC to support them for kindly hosting our event.

Parents/guardians or some adult family member must also attend. (We want our LTH participants to have a parent or special adult accompany them to these events. We hope to share with our LTH participants, and their families/guardian/special adult our love of the outdoors, camaraderie, and the tradition of turkey hunting.  Our goal is to welcome new families into the sport of turkey hunting.

During this class, the hunters will learn basic essential hunter safety procedures, ethics, calling techniques, blind setups, and more.  We are also providing “turkey goodie bags” with gloves, head nets, a free turkey call, and other items so you can take them home and practice for your big day! This will prove to be a very informative and fun day!

The range portion of your child's day is led by volunteer Hunter Education instructors, DNR professionals, and LTH Volunteers.  Part of the afternoon will also be used to make sure the young hunters know how to safely handle a shotgun.  LTH participants will actually practice using a turkey gun at our shooting/safety range.  We will have Hunter Education range instructors on hand to help teach your child to safely handle a shotgun, which is provided by our LTH Program.  Hearing protection is provided for your child on the range.  The young LTH hunters will be practicing how to handle the firearm correctly. They will also have a blind safety station, video application station, and a question and answer area to help prepare them for the hunt.  We will provide everything needed for this range day.  Participants will be using a 20 gauge shotgun. The program provides the shotgun shells, targets and advice that day.  Please DO NOT bring any firearms or shells to our range and classroom day!

The Pittsfield Trap Club will be grilling hamburgers, brats and hotdogs. They will also have chips, soda, and bottled water for purchase.  We hope you enjoy a good lunch and help support the Pittsfield Trap Club who has generously provided their facilities for our program.

Landowner/Mentor/Parent Appreciation Dinner April 2nd Noon to 1PM

Pulaski VFW Hall. The LTH program will host a potluck dinner.  A BBQ Meal will be provided by the Pulaski Area Learn to Hunt Program.  Please bring a family sized dish to pass.  Your family is welcome to join our celebration and meet the landowners.  Please explain to your child how important it is to thank our landowners and mentors. Without our landowners, this program is not possible. Contact Pat Kyrzanek at (920)655-0090 for more information.

Pulaski Area Learn to Hunt Program

Attn: Terry Erdmann LTH Director

7311 Lower Road

Sobieski, WI 54171

*Financial Aid:  We have a special "Pay it Forward" program for children that are in financial need.  Let Terry Erdmann know at pulaskilth@gmail.com if you need this help.

Note:  Your official registration and spot will not be secured until you are registered AND the $20 check has been received by our LTH Treasurer.  No shows will forfeit their check, which will be donated to the Pulaski Area Learn To Hunt Program.  Our LTH Volunteers invest a tremendous amount of time, effort, and finances to make this program special.  Your deposit tells us that you want to participate as much as our volunteers do.  Any donations are very much appreciated and are used to purchase additional equipment for the program.

Supplies for the LTH Program for the Participants

The program has a limited supply of warm hunting clothing to loan.  If your child does not have these items we can usually help them get ready for the hunt.  Mentors will also work with hunters to find items from within their own wardrobe to build on.  EVERY hunter will be warm and ready by the time of the hunt.  If you know you need an item, please note this in your registration and our mentors will help get your child set up.  Your mentor will be providing such things as hunting chairs, blinds, gun rest sticks, decoys, calls, and shotgun shells for their turkey hunt.

Parents

We require a parent/guardian or an adult to go along for the hunt.  If that is not possible, we will then have two mentors take out your child. You will WANT to come and bring your camera!  If there is no way for you as a parent to attend, then we are hoping you can find that special adult in your family or a friend that can accompany your LTH child on their hunts.  Research shows that an adult that shows an interest in a child’s outdoor passion is paramount to that child continuing their hunting heritage.

Mentors

If a friend/family member is already a Learn To Hunt mentor and has agreed to take your child, please indicate this on the registration form.  The Pulaski Area Learn to Hunt no longer allows NEW mentors to take out their own children.  To help parents or family friends, we are again offering a new “Mentor Trainee Program” this year.  For more information see the “Mentor Information Link” of this web page.  We are providing this new Mentor Trainee program to train adults that would like to be NEW Pulaski LTH Mentors.  Both experienced and new turkey hunters are welcome to check out the mentor trainee program.

Other Special Events

Turkey Fan Display Taxidermy day June 7th 4 pm

We also offer a turkey fan, beard, and spur taxidermy day at Pulaski Community Middle School. This will be for all LTH Hunters, regardless if you were able to harvest your first turkey or not. (We will have extra fans and beards for you all)  We will also put together an article for the Pulaski News to show off your hunts!   Our intent is to not just give your child an opportunity to harvest a turkey, but to see the entire process of what hunting is all about. We hope to instill a love for the outdoors that will last a lifetime!

Sincerely,

Terry Erdmann
